I like Geoff McFetridge’s art a lot. A lot of what I’ve seen of his could be called “commercial” art, although the way that lines are blurred these days, does it really matter? I actually think I like some of his art for clients more than some of his gallery/museum installations… I’m pretty damn clueless about the rules and accepted practices in the art world, which isn’t all bad, so if “gallery,” “museum,” or “installation were used wrong, sorry… He does rad lettering, simple illustrations, and is able to portray some strong ideas where my interpretation, as the viewer, has a firm place to start. I don’t understand a lot of high-concept art. But I do understand design and aesthetic and I know what I like. Some graffiti artists could use a weekend or two locked in a box with Geoff’s art to study. I think the thing that appeals most to me is that his art makes me feel like I could draw. It’s simple, kinda like the early punk that inspired many of us… But when it comes together right, it’s genius. Check his stuff out here: http://championdontstop.com/site3/gm.html
